Activities for all the family are hosted in different spots across the city. Emblematic places such as the Plaza Mayor. Countless Concerts, Comic Opera, Zarzuela, Gigantes y Cabezudos Parade are taking place. From 6 to 15 May, Madrid hosts a number of religious ceremonies. The blessing of the water from the fountain and a ceremony in honor of Saint Isidore, the Quinario fort the Saint, a mass at the Collegiata de San Isidro, The Eucharist in the Chapel of the Cuadra de San Isidro will take place.
Solemn events last for several days. The official opening of the festival takes place in the centre of the city on May 11th at six o’clock in the evening with a procession of giant doll heads from the Plaza Santo Domingo. The parade passes through the main streets of Madrid and finishes at Plaza de la Villa (Villa Square). During the next three days, concerts of brass bands, contemporary pop and rock performers, theatrical productions, and dance shows are held in the most emblematic places of the city (Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Oriente, the Temple of Debod, etc.). As for the dances on St. Isidro’s Day, the locals perform the traditional Spanish dance borrowed from the Scots.
ARRIVAL TO MADRID (WC)
You will be greeted by a courteous member of our staff and a 45 minutes ride for the first visit to the historical Madrid depending of your arrival time. Then you will be transferred to your hotel to attend Welcome Cocktail by our Tour Manager.
After the breakfast at your hotel we take you to one of the best fine art museums in the World, El Prado Museum with amazing painting and sculpture collections. Entrance tickets and local guide included. Following this exceptional discovery we will have a lunch in a typical Spanish restaurant to taste the local favorites.
In the afternoon we are strolling trough historical streets of Madrid. Plaza del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Mercado The San Isidro parade passes through the main streets of Madrid and finishes at Plaza de la Villa (Villa Square).
Today after having our very best breakfast we will depart for an enjoying time at the Plaza Espana with Cervantes and Don Quixote monument and we will visit the Royal Palace. Entrance tickets and local guide included. From 1561 until civil war (1936 – 39) Spain was ruled from this hill on the Manzanares River Bank.
After a Spanish local lunch we will visit el Retiro Park and Calle Serrano shopping district and continue to enjoy concerts of brass bands, contemporary pop and rock performers, theatrical productions, and dance shows are held in the most emblematic places of the city.
After the breakfast at your hotel, we will have a one our ride to the old Moorish Capital Toledo. This city is charming. It is a synthesis of cultures. Meandering narrow alleys, Old minaret transformed to a bell tower, very typical houses are witnesses of a very rich past. We will see the famous painting of “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz”. The painter is the best of Toledo’s past, El Greco. Entrance tickets included. We will visit also the magnificent Toledo Cathedral which holds always the most important religious power in Spain. After the lunch in Toledo and our visits we will come back to Madrid.
We will have another chance to enjoy concerts of brass bands, contemporary pop and rock performers, theatrical productions, and dance shows are held in the most emblematic places of the city.
